Description
Before there was Dick and Jane, there was The Modern School Readers! This book is in good condition. “Property of Monroe Public Schools” stamped on front pastedown. Ex-owners name printed on front pastedown. “Discarded” stamp on front endpaper. Page ix, 3, 5 and 45 have a small tear. Otherwise, the book is in great shape for its age. Reader for young children. Wonderful color illustrations throughout.
Fun facts: The book was developed by authors Ruth Thompson and Harry Bruce Wilson. Wilson was a prominent educator and superintendent of schools, and the series was influenced by the Progressive Education movement of the era. This philosophy shifted away from rote memorization towards making learning relevant and engaging to a child’s world.
