Description
A very good edition from 1900! There is minor shelf wear to the covers. The pages are clean with some minor chipping throughout, possibly due to the paper stock. Two of the advertisement pages in the back are uncut. Black and white illustrations throughout.
T. H. Huxley was a biologist and strong advocate for Darwin’s theory of evolution, actually taking it even farther. While Darwin’s On the Origin of Species famously avoided discussing human evolution in detail, Huxley’s work was the first to do so explicitly. The book provides a firsthand account of how the theory was first applied to our own species, using the available knowledge of primate anatomy and the earliest hominid fossils.
Despite that this book is well over a hundred years old, those engaged in modern debate over evolution will find Huxley’s work encouraging. The book shows that many of the same creationist arguments heard today were already being addressed and defeated with clear scientific evidence over 150 years ago.
